Pre-lim Planning

Our idea for our pre-lim is to re-create a small section of a music video, the music video which we have decided to create is Eminem - My Name Is. We have decided to create 15 seconds worth of this video which is the time between 0:45- 1:00 as we believe this will be an easy time slot to re-create.

Within the preliminary video we are going to recreate the scenes which include the artist laid down on a chair with his arms inside his clothing, so we will have our artist in a similar looking hoodie with his arms within his clothing to have the same affect as the original video. I believe that this will be effective as we will be able to create the video how it looks in the original one.

Eminem - My Name Is

Roles:  Main artist - Jordan Gregson
Doctor - Brandon Playford
Camera man - Emily Rawles and Kirsty Robertson

Storyboard:
This is the storyboard which Kirsty created for our Pre-lim task, this shows all the shots which we will be doing in the 15 seconds of our video.

Locations:
We are planning to film the whole of our Pre-lim in our college building, we want to use a classroom which has a sofa in it to be able to show the artist (Eminem) laid on a bed as he is within the original video. The photo to the left shows the sofa which we will film the preliminary task to make it similar.
We also want a shot of the artist in the lift at college as it resembled the lights in the original music video, this would be effective as we would able to create the same impression which had originally been created by Eminem in his music video. The photo to the right shows the lift which will film in.
Filming Schedule:
For filming our Pre-lim task we have booked to use the college cameras three different times in order to film the preliminary task successfully.
The dates which we are due to film on are;

- Monday 14th January 2016
On this day we plan to film Jordan and Brandon when they are in the room which includes the sofa as breaking up the filming over the course of a week will make it more effective and we will have time between filming this section to make a start on the editing before we film the next section the week after.

- Wednesday 20th January 2016
On this day we plan to film Jordan within the lift where he is seen singing into the camera, we gave more time for this shot in order for Jordan to know all the words correctly for the music video so that it looked professional and realistic.

- Thursday 21st January 2016
This date is to go over any filming which we may have missed through the filming or if any shots do not fit and they have to be done again.

Lyrics:
As we are only filming 15 seconds of this music video we are only using a small amount of lyrics from the video. The lyrics which we are using are below;
But I can't figure out which Spice Girl I want to impregnate (Ummmm...)
And Dr. Dre said, "Slim Shady you a basehead!"
Uh-uhhh! "So why's your face red? Man you wasted!"
Well since age twelve, I've felt like I'm someone else
Cause I hung my original self from the top bunk with a belt

Props and Costume:

In the Pre-lim we want our artist to be wearing a light coloured hoodie (grey) with their arms inside it to replicate what Eminem is doing in his music video. The photo to the right shows the hoodie which we want the artist to be wearing a similar one too. This will meet the codes and conventions of a rap music video as they are usually in tracksuits and as this being a hoodie can resemble a tracksuit.

Magazine Poster Research

This is our plan for our magazine poster, we want to have an over the shoulder shot of our artist looking at a load of houses as this shows society which will match the name of the album. We decided on this template as a group because we believed it captured the effect which we want for our poster. From researching different rap artists posters they do not usually have the artists face on the poster so we decided on an over the shoulder shot to show a small aspect of the artist on the poster so it is easy noticeable that it it our artist.

In the photos to the right you can see the different shots which I took of Jordan who is going to be playing our artist on different angles of a road which shows a lot of houses on it which fits with our magazine poster plan. We found this road just down the road from our college so we was able to take photographs of Jordan here. Through taking these photos we decided as a group that the best image that would capture the correct codes and conventions would be the bottom right image as we found this background was better than the photographs on top and we also found that Jordan looking at the camera made him look awkward and it would have drawn attention to this and it would create the correct effect which we was going for.

Through using the image we selected as a group, Kirsty made a magazine poster mock up like I previously did for the digipak. She created this over the use of Canva (https://www.canva.com/)  and also made a questionnaire which would find out what audiences like about it and how we could change it to fit the features we wanted. We targeted this questionnaire at 20 people from our college to fill out as people within our college are within our target audience.

In the results from the questionnaire which was gathered we was able to find out the areas where we needed to improve on this. On the second question of "If you could change anything, what would it be?" our audience said to make it more exciting by adding more colour into it which would also make it more eye catching to the audiences and more people will notice it and may more attention to it. We are going to stick to three colours as this is a convention of the rap genre, the colours which we have decided to use are black, red and white this is because of question six "Do you like our font?" a lot of people said yes as it seemed masculine but a few people also said that they do not like the font as it was plain and boring to this is an area which we plan on changing and almost all people said that they liked the colours we had on the poster but they needed to be brighter which was black, red and white. Within the questionnaire our audience said that they liked the name of our album and the effect it gave and that it was open to interpretation so it can mean different things to different people to it can appeal to all different people which will widen our audience. On our final question "Does the poster look like something you would buy?" we had a lot of mixed answers as some of the people who answered the questionnaire said that it looked boring and not professional due to this we are going to put a different spin on our final magazine poster.

Digipak Research

Me and Jordan Gregson created a mock up of how our digipak is going to be when it is created, below is the mock up which we created together, we created this through the use of an App called ' Live Collage' on my iPad as we wanted a rough idea of what we would be creating without using Photoshop where we could have edited the photos a lot more but we wanted the photos to remain normal.
This is the mock up digipak which I created:

This is the template I created for the digipak:
I  created this to see what people wanted to see on our digipak and if they liked the idea of what we had planned. This was also to see what our audiences thought of the layout and the photo selection which we have created.

After we created this we went around our college to ask people within our target audience to answer a questionnaire which I created.

This is a copy of our digipak questionnaire:

Within the questionnaire I gathered 11 sets of results. The results which have helped in the final decision making process as from this we have learnt that not a lot of our audience liked the top middle photograph on the digipak, whereas, within the questionnaire the highest rated photograph within the digipak was the bottom panorama photograph of Jordan with his back to the camera. Due to this we are going to change the photograph on the digipak to meet the demands of the target audience in order to make our digipak a success.

Filming Schedule

We have decided to use a filming schedule for creating our Preliminary task as we believe that it will keep us organised and we will know what we are filming each day and the locations we will need to be at and the costumes and props which are required for the shots.

We have planned to film the preliminary task on Friday 29th January, Thursday 11th February and on Friday 4th Match 2016.

We have chosen these dates as this enables us to film some footage and be able to edit it and then see where we need to film next and see if we have missed anything. These dates give us a lot of time to be able to edit the footage.
